The Huijia Private School set up a Food Safety Laboratory in early 2012, which take responsibility for ensuring the safety of all foods and vegetables and other raw food materials used by the school canteens and cafeterias.
Equipped with modern food testing equipment, the lab can fast test any harmful residuals of chemicals contained in food such as pesticides residues and soluble lead in vegetables, total number of colonies (TVC), coliform bacteria, mold and yeast, non-edible substances including Diao Bai Kuai, formaldehyde, Sudan red I, and industrial alkali, among others. Detected samples include vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products, drinks, ice cream, etc.
Samples of the raw food materials are tested every day and only qualified raw materials are allowed to be used by our canteens and cafeterias.
Compared with the traditional testing method, the rapid detection system at the lab can quickly confirm whether the sample is qualified or not in a very short time. For example, the time of traditional microbial test can be reduced to 1/3 to 1/4 through Soleris microorganism detection system, testing time of TVC and coliform bacteria is 8-10 hours, testing time of mold and yeast can be reduced from 5 days to 2 days, and the results of other testing indexes such as pesticide residues, soluble lead and non-edible substances can be known in one day only.
Since the 2012-2013 School Year, more than 1,000 batches of 180-plus kinds of food samples have been tested, offering safety information to the procurement staff to purchase qualified raw food materials and ensure a safe diet for the school’s students, teachers and faculty.
